What do you call a soft drink?
The south predominantly says Coke; the northeast, California & Arizona use Soda and the rest of the northern US call it Pop.
There are some irregularities where Soda is used around St. Louis & eastern Wisconsin.
It is common to use Coke as the generic term in other countries, such as India.
The local NBC station proclaimed today’s snowfall “Winter Storm 2008.” While there was some snow and that was nice to see around here, it wasn’t the big deal they tried to make it out to be. I’ll find out what real winter weather is like tomorrow. The forecast is -6° F in Minneapolis Sunday at 8 PM, OUCH!

I’m about to head up to Minneapolis, Minnesota, for some training of the next few weeks and months so I finally to the plunge into the “blogosphere,” which is something I’ve been thinking about doing for some time. This will be a good way to give everyone I know back in Birmingham a glimpse of what winter (and summer) is like 1000 miles north. The name of my blog, North by Northwest, comes from the classic movie directed by Alfred Hitchcock (see DVD cover below) and the fact that it looks like I will be flying north to MN on Northwest Airlines most of the time. It seemed fitting enough to me. In fact, I leave tomorrow (Sunday, January 19th) for the first set of classes and should be back next Wednesday, the 30th. I still have some fixing up to do, but I wanted to go ahead and get it up and running today before I leave.
