I had a chance attend the Ron Paul Rally last night where over 4,000 supporters and interested voters showed up to hear him speak. According to this there were around 4,200 people there, which is even more than the 3,800 that came to see Hillary a few days ago.
“Dr. Paul’s message of freedom, peace and prosperity is resonating with voters here in Minnesota,” said Marianne Stebbins, Ron Paul 2008 state coordinator in Minnesota. “We are planning on a surprisingly strong finish here in the Land of a 10,000 Lakes.”
Minnesota holds their caucus on Super Tuesday.
Update, here are some pictures from the rally:
Ouch. What a day for RP.
First, my criticism:
I mean, what the crap was all that fund raising for? It could’ve gone to hire some campaign maverick-strategist like Carville or Rove (I said “like,” as in really good in their campaign abilities. I didn’t actually mean the real Carville or Rove.). Or perhaps – and here’s a novel idea – perhaps air time for a commercial or two? I’m an avid TV watcher, sir, and I have not seen one single RP commercial. So much for grass roots campaign. Did he even want to win? Or was this the most ingenious money-making scheme in history?
Next, my lament: Is this how McGovern supporters felt back in the day? Or Buffalo Bills fans? Or Clubber Lang fans? To quote the learned Charlie Brown: “Ugggghhhh.”
Admittedly, my lament is mostly from the sidelines, seeing as how I’m not “involved” (*making air quotes w/ my fingers*) in the political campaign process. I did vote for ol’ RP, with the foreknowledge it would probably be the same as not voting at all. Even though RP didn’t completely blow my skirt up, he made more sense on most issues than any of the other candidates combined.
*Which has me wondering: maybe I’m the idiot, maybe I don’t know what’s up. Maybe the other candidates do have serious solutions to our nation’s problems. Maybe the other candidates are actually not all the same.
Yes, that must be it. I’ll have to shoulder that. It’s on me. Because the alternative means I’m actually right about RP being the best candidate, and the rest of the country has been duped. That’s a scary thought. I may sleep better if I keep telling myself I was in the wrong all along…
Statistically speaking, as a voter in a Republican primary, there is a 97% chance you actually are insane.
And of course, I’m sure the other 97% spent more time weighing the issues and candidates positions as you did (yeah, right).
